Work That Empathises Outline
Overall Ideas:
Bill Beckley
Bill Beckley has shown his work in galleries and museums throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States since the early seventies. Bill said in an interview regarding his art work said, "Over the decades, metaphors evolved, allusions ramified. Because there is never one true meaning to be extracted from a work of art, it remains endlessly open to interpretation. Inviting and eluding the attempt to make sense of it."
Example Of His Work
Favourite
This is my favourite because the focus point is in the middle and it also shows a medium depth of field. I think he has used the F stop on 15 because that's what I used when I tried to capture the waves at Anglesey. If I was to implicate this shoot I would tie several coulourful ropes to a rack and then have a hairdryer to make it move. Then I will capture it at F15.
Personal Response:
Bill Beckley is a photographer who likes everything neat as most of pictures are straight lines such as flowers. However, with this picture he has above and beyond so that's why this picture is my favourite.

Working In The Style Of The Photographer
Worst
I think this is my worst take as none of the ribbons are in focus and it didn't turn out how I wanted it to be. If I wanted to improve this I would use a fan/hairdryer to make the ribbons spread out better.
Best
This is my best take because the ribbons are all moving and the front two ribbons are in focus. This was my improvement from mid-shoot.
Holly Roberts
Holly Roberts' work is based on the photograph, it is the inclusion of paint that continues to make it so distinctive. Photographs of people she is acquainted with form the basis for her artwork. They tell stories about situations and events. As a result of this, it's a fairytale-like depictions of people with wolf heads and unrealistic limbs. She manages to win the viewer over with her metaphoric language in no time.
Example Of Her Work
Favourite
This is my favourite because she has linked 'outlines' with animals by drawing a horse. This has some humour as the rider is backwards and that will be impossible to ride. If I was to replicate this I would take a picture of a horse and someone sitting on a chair. Then I will photoshop the person and place them on the horse backwards.
Adam Fuss
Adam Fuss uses early photographic techniques, such as photo-grams, to create images that explore the mystery of life. Some of his most famous works include images of babies in water, dresses and snakes. Of his work, Fuss has said: “I was consciously trying to make photographs I hadn’t seen before. I’d probably seen billions of photographs and they were all produced by the same mechanism… Photograms let you see what has never been in a camera. Life itself is the image.” To me the quote "Life itself is the image." means that Adam Fuss loves taking pictures and always carries a camera to capture all of his moments.
Example Of His Work
Favourite
This is my favourite because all the lines have been done according to the colour spectrum, as they are warm colours. I want to try to replicate this but using light photography.
Personal Response:
Also, Adam Fuss has a simple style but a strong image. Such as this picture is just circles but the warm colours make it look like the sun.

Working In The Style Of The Photographer
Worst
This is my worst take because there is no real design on the paper. Also the photograph is out of focus and there is no initial outline in it.
Best
This is my best take because the whole photograph is in focus and there is some outline design fitting in with the exam. This also fits in with the 'Weird & Wonderful' topic as this look like a pizza.
Shoot 1
Plan:
- I will use flowers as outlines
- I will work like Bill Beckley
- I will use flowers as outlines
- I will work like Bill Beckley
Worst
This is my worst take because nothing of the picture is in focus and the the photograph is over-exposed. Even though the flower is centered, in my opinion, it isn't an 'outline' of anything.
Best
This is my best take because I have applied rule of thirds to this as the man is on the left line. Also the photograph has medium depth of field as the the man is in focus whereas the background isn't.
Shoot 2
Plan:
- I will need a bright light
- I will need different kinds of stencils
- I will need a bright light
- I will need different kinds of stencils
Worst
This is my worst take because I tried to take a photo of the design but the light made that difficult. I had tried to use a large depth of field but that also didn't go to plan. To correct this shoot I used the light and stencils to catch the shadows just like I did with my final Slinkachu shoot.
Best
This is my best take because I experimented with the camera settings as I put the camera effect on monochrome because I wanted to see what it looked liked. The focus point is on the stencil with the shadow out of focus which is a small depth of field.
Jasper James
Jasper James is a China based photographer working in Shanghai and Beijing. He shoots advertising and editorial work. His photography are portraits layered over landscape photography.

Final Piece
This is my final piece, for this I was inspired by Jasper James, I liked the idea of using the outlines of people and filling it with a landscape, I thought this was really creative so with my own twist I decided to recreate it. A lot my 10 hrs involved me working on Photoshop, it took longer than I expected as my work got lost several times therefore I had to redo it all. Despite from the technical errors I managed to produce the outcome I hoped for and it looks great!
